Recently Miranda Lambert released a song called “Vice”. As I listened to the song, I heard a story about someone who was going through some situations and making day to day decisions that they may or may not have felt good about. If you listen you hear someone who doesn’t really want to make those decisions or be on the path and just not sure where to get on a different path.
She’s a little stuck, a little aware and starting to do a lot of thinking.
To me, we all do this at some point in our lives. We go through stuff. So, what’s our role if we are a friend to someone who is in a transition of some type?
Two suggestions I might offer are understanding and friendship. Understanding that we are always becoming and friendship offers acceptance. It’s those qualities that create unity with others and lays a foundation for anyone going through a transition to not feel alone or judged.
I don’t feel a friendship alone though can bring us out of a negative place, but friendship can be like running a race and there is this person standing ahead with a water bottle. When you get the water, it gives you so much energy to continue. We need to do the hard work. When you continue, you learn & grow into better places.
